THE PROBLEM WITH TRADITIONAL VOCAB APPS
Most vocabulary apps are islands. You open them, study for 20 minutes, close them, and forget half of what you saw within 48 hours.
The science on this is clear: passive review and massed practice produce short-term recall, not lasting memory. You need active recall at precisely the right intervals — just before the word fades — to move it into long-term storage. That requires timing. And timing requires a tool that runs in the background, not one you have to remember to open.
WHY WE BUILT WORDROP
Wordrop lives in your macOS menu bar. It watches the clock, calculates when each word is about to slip from your memory, and drops a 30-second quiz right where you already are — between emails, before a meeting, mid-coffee.
The engine underneath is the SM-2 spaced repetition algorithm — the same system used by Anki and Memrise, proven to increase long-term retention by 3× compared to traditional study. No extra time blocked on your calendar. No guilt for not opening an app. Just words that stick.
