Terms of Service

Effective Date: 2026-07-03

By downloading, installing, or using Wordrop(the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App.

1. Description of the App

Wordrop is a native macOS application that delivers vocabulary quiz popups throughout the workday using the SM-2 spaced-repetition algorithm. It lives in the system menu bar and adapts to the user's focus context using idle detection, screen-share detection, calendar awareness, and configurable snooze controls.

2. License and Permitted Use

2.1 License Grant

Subject to these Terms, the developer grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on macOS devices you own or control.

2.2 Restrictions

You may not:

  • Copy, modify, distribute, sell, or sublicense the App or any portion of it
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose
  • Circumvent any feature-gating or licensing mechanisms built into the App

3. Free Tier and Paid Subscriptions

3.1 Free Tier

The free tier provides limited access to Wordrop:

  • Up to 5 vocabulary words per day (combined new + review)
  • Flashcard mode only — Recall and Reverse Recall modes are locked
  • No analytics, heatmap, or session configuration

3.2 Paid Tiers

Three paid tiers are available: Monthly, Annual, and Lifetime. Paid tiers unlock:

  • Unlimited daily words
  • All quiz modes (Flashcard, Recall, Reverse Recall)
  • Full analytics and activity heatmap
  • Session size and interval configuration
  • Daily new/review word goal settings
  • CSV import and word pack features

3.3 In-App Purchases

All purchases are processed by Apple via StoreKit 2. By making a purchase, you agree to Apple's Terms of Sale. The developer does not handle payment information directly. Pricing is set in the App and may change at any time.

3.4 Refunds

Refund requests for paid subscriptions must be submitted to Apple, as purchases are governed by Apple's standard refund policy. The developer has no ability to issue refunds directly.

3.5 Subscription Auto-Renewal

Monthly and Annual plans are auto-renewing subscriptions. They will renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled in your Apple Account settings at least 24 hours before the renewal date.

4. Beta Version — Additional Terms

4.1 Beta Eligibility

The Beta version is distributed to invited testers only. Access is granted at the developer's sole discretion and may be revoked at any time.

4.2 Beta Trial Window

Beta testers receive 30 days of full paid-tier access from the date of first launch, at no charge. After the 30-day trial window expires, the app reverts to free-tier restrictions (5 words/day, flashcard-only mode) unless the tester purchases a paid plan.

4.3 Beta Data Collection Consent

During beta onboarding, testers are asked to consent to usage data collection (name, email, job/role, daily word engagement metrics, and word packs used). Consent is required to participate in the beta program. Testers who do not consent will not have engagement data transmitted, but may still use the app.

4.4 Beta Feedback Submissions

By submitting feedback, ratings, or production-access requests through the PLAN tab, beta testers agree that the submitted content (including name, email, and message text) may be used by the developer to improve the product and to contact the tester about their request.

4.5 Beta Confidentiality

Beta testers agree to keep the App's pre-release features, UI, and any performance characteristics confidential. Do not share screenshots, recordings, or descriptions of the App publicly without prior written permission from the developer.

4.6 No Warranty for Beta Builds

The Beta version is provided "as is" without any warranty. It may contain bugs, instability, or data-loss risks not present in production builds. Testers use the Beta at their own risk.

4.7 Transition to Production

After the beta trial expires, testers may request production access via the "Request Production" action in the PLAN tab. Submitting this request does not guarantee a discounted or free production license; pricing is at the developer's discretion.

5. User Content and Vocabulary Data

5.1 Your Data

All vocabulary words, quiz history, and settings you create or import into Wordrop are stored locally on your device. You retain full ownership of this data.

5.2 Word Pack Content

Wordrop may include or provide access to curated word packs (bundled CSV data). These packs are provided for personal learning purposes only and may not be extracted, redistributed, or used outside the App.

5.3 Anki Import

When using the Anki import feature, you are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use the imported deck data. The developer makes no claim over imported content.

6. macOS System Permissions

Wordrop requests the following macOS permissions:

PermissionPurpose
User NotificationsDeliver quiz reminders when the quiz window cannot be shown
Screen Recording / AccessibilityDetect full-screen windows to suppress quiz popups during focused work
Calendar (Read-only)Detect active calendar events to suppress popups during meetings

Granting these permissions is optional. Declining them may reduce the accuracy of context-aware quiz delivery. No screen content, keystrokes, or calendar event details are stored or transmitted.

7. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

7.1 No Warranty

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

7.2 Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE DEVELOPER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP — INCLUDING DATA LOSS, LOSS OF PRODUCTIVITY, OR INTERRUPTION OF WORK — EVEN IF THE DEVELOPER HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

7.3 Language Learning Results

Wordrop is a tool to support vocabulary learning. The developer makes no guarantee regarding specific language-learning outcomes, retention rates, or educational results.

8. Intellectual Property

All rights, title, and interest in and to the App — including its pixel art assets, pixel-theme design system, SRS algorithm implementation, and underlying Swift source code — are and shall remain the exclusive property of the developer. Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you.

9. Termination

The developer may terminate or suspend your access to the App at any time, with or without cause, effective immediately. Upon termination, your license to use the App ceases. Local data remains on your device until you uninstall the App.

10. Changes to These Terms

The developer reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. The revised Terms will be posted at the App's landing page. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the developer's jurisdiction, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
